Pastair takes big step towards international market
The Swedish innovation company Pastair AB has developed a process for the coldpasteurisation of liquid food. Now, one of the international giants of the foodprocessing industry ordered a unit to make their own evaluation.
The entrepreneur behind Pastair – Johan Sjöholm - has himself a long history in the food processing and packaging business. The company Arom Pak, built around a proprietary aseptic dosing system which is used to make lactose-free dairy products, was sold to Tetra Pak in 2003 and is currently in its portfolio of processing equipment for the international market.
- It is an important part of the innovation process of large companies to keep track of what happens in small, innovative, technology companies, says Johan Sjöholm. Innovation that works and have a place in its own product portfolio can be manufactured by partners - it's both easier and more cost effective than running the entire development of technology on their own.
The development of the Pastair method, based on the elimination of the microorganisms with the aid of active oxygen (ozone), instead of heating, has been in close cooperation with the industry. The full-scale runs made at Swedish and international dairies have provided useful experience that could be used to fine tune the equipment.
- Now we have a process that works and is also underway to develop a product line that can be adapted to many different foods and needs - from the farm dairy to the major juice producers. Therefore, and due to the increasing demand for more natural products, it is only logical that we ended up at the innovation maps of international companies. A successful evaluation can mean a big step towards the international market.
